Installation of Vaillant aroTHERM plus + Unitower
Detached house project
A sustainable heating solution
At Optiklimaat we provided a detached house in Rotterdam with a sustainable heating solution using the Vaillant aroTHERM plus in combination with the compact Unitower. The house, with a floor area of 121 m², has made a huge sustainability leap: from an old VR gas boiler to a fully all-electric system.
Former situation
The home was heated with an old AWB VR boiler, a traditional gas-fired boiler that worked via a flue on the chimney. The system was outdated, not energy-efficient and offered few options to make it more sustainable. The piping consisted of 22 mm steel, connected to the thick-walled pipes of the house installation.
Challenges
There were a few challenges with this project:
- Beperkte ruimte voor de nieuwe binnenunit.
- Possible groundwater, requiring a custom-made plinth with water-resistant coating.
- Frost protection for the pipes running in the ground to the outdoor unit.
New installation
To make the house future-proof, an all-electric solution was chosen:
- Unitower indoor unit: very compact, with an integrated 190L cylinder. All technical elements are built-in, including a back-up element.
- Piping: the existing 22 mm pipes have been enlarged to 28 mm and connected to the thick-walled pipes of the house installation. The pipes running in the ground to the outdoor unit are pre-insulated to prevent frost.
- Outdoor unit (aroTHERM plus): installed in the garden on a sunken gravel base.
- Smart solutions: the compact unit fits well in the limited space and the custom-made plinth protects against groundwater.
Result
The home now has a sustainable and energy-efficient heating system. The system offers:
- fully all-electric comfort
- reliable back-up from the Unitower,
- hot tap water via the integrated cylinder
- a future-proof installation ready for years of use, with frost-protected pipes to the outdoor unit and protection against groundwater
Thanks to this solution, the home has taken a major step in sustainability and energy savings, while maintaining comfort and reliability.
