At Optiklimaat we are regularly called in for heat pump installations that keep tripping into fault. In many cases the cause is not the unit itself, but incorrect installation or improper commissioning. That was also the case with this HP-S 55 air-to-water heat pump (indoor unit).
Situation on arrival (former situation)
Inspection showed the installation had not been connected according to the principle diagram. During the check the following issues came to light:
- The pipework was incorrectly connected to the buffer vessel
- Flow was insufficient, which regularly led to faults
- No magnetic filter had been fitted, so magnetite and contamination could circulate freely through the system. Because of this combination of errors the system kept tripping and the heat pump could not do its job reliably.
Optiklimaat’s approach: back to basics
To resolve the faults structurally, Optiklimaat chose to rebuild the foundation of the installation correctly from scratch.
- Pipework and manifold adapted. The pipework was changed together with the manifold. The buffer vessel is now correctly connected and again fulfils the right role in the installation. A bypass was also fitted and correctly set to avoid efficiency loss.
- Shut-off valves fitted. The required shut-off valves were added so that future maintenance or repairs do not require draining the entire installation.
- Magnetic filter installed. A magnetic filter was fitted to keep magnetite and contamination out of the system. This protects components and moving parts and contributes to a longer service life.
- Balancing and inspection. The installation was rebalanced, tested and fully checked for correct operation.
Result
After these changes the system was fully recommissioned. The heat pump runs stably, the buffer vessel works as intended within the installation and the faults have been resolved. The installation now operates reliably and as designed.
Conclusion
This case underlines the importance of correct installation and balancing. Heat pumps such as the HP-S 55 deliver excellent performance when they are connected according to the principle diagram and carefully commissioned. With the right foundation, fault-free and efficient operation is ensured.
